Mama Kin to tour with The Waifs

Here’s wishing you all a magical year ahead. This one is already feeling wonderful, not least because we have exciting news to share:

The Mama and her GeorgeMichael boys are hitting the road with The Waifs for their Temptation Tour.

We can’t tell you how wide we’re grinning at the thought of sharing the stage with those wicked Waifs once more. And there are plenty of dates all across the east coast so we’ll be seeing many of you out there soon.

Hitting the road with The Cats

We’ve been busting to tell you some big touring news and finally we can let it all out!

We have been confirmed as the national tour support for THE CAT EMPIRE throughout August and September. We can’t wait to hit the road with The Cats to celebrate the launch of their new album – and ours! – it’s all very exciting.

Hello there,

Just wanted to send a shout out to you all on a couple of fronts… Firstly thanks so much to all of you who joined our mailing list while we were touring with The Waifs and Ani Di Franco.. Welcome! And Thanks heaps for your support..

Secondly.. Very excited about upcoming shows for East Coast Bluesfest and West Coast Blues and Roots and Festival.. So honoured to be on both of those bills.

Can I just say that since I started writing this little email I have been interrupted 5 times for various requests…

   1. oldest child (6 yr old) requiring texta that works on white boards so she can play teachers
   2. youngest child (2) hungry, protesting offering of stone fruits
   3. oldest child requesting mediation in dealing with visiting friend in regards to sharing
   4. youngest child coming back to re open debate on stone fruit versus chocolate
   5. youngest child falling off skateboard while trying to ride through house… Why do I persist??

…because I have been wanting to write this message for so long and I am determined to get it out!!!

So where was I.. Yeah Bluesfest shows.. Can’t wait!! And then Brother Michael and I are going to start working on the Mama Kin album. Which feels really exciting. Most of the songs are written but looking forward to capturing their vibe and building on them in the studio, and doing some co writing with Michael, so if you don’t see any gig action for a while, you know we are still busy hoping to release some fruit in the spring time.

Ok so back to you… reasons for writing this email..
Thirdly… I want to thank you so much for your action in getting me in the ranks of Triple J Unearthed. Very flattered to see 3 of my little baby songs in the Unearthed Roots chart and my little Find Me clambering up the main charts! I was out camping and came back to the world of web and saw that action! Most impressed. If you want to throw any more votes my way here is the link!

So that is it. So while things are quiet on the Western Front, I will bid you all adieu, and go play doctors and teachers and try and market some stone fruit to the unwilling!

Firstly BIG LOVE to everyone who came out to see the first Mama Kin live Australian shows on the recent Andy Bull tour. Well that was fun! Hadsome cracker gigs and a whole lot of good laughs with those Bull boys. So what now? Oh so much!! Next we get to go and shake our tail feathers at Woodford. Looking forward to that! I was there a few years ago as a punter and I remember thinking.. Wow imagine if I could actually play Woodford sometime!…I tell ya… I really never believed, although I always secretly hoped, I would have the guts to get on up and give this part of myself flight..so all this still comes as a genuine surprise and such an honour to me..SPEAKING OF HONOURS!!!

You may have noticed that we will be going out for some dates with THE WAIFS AND ANI DI FRANCO late January. Hello.. Did someone say The WAIFS and ANI DI FRANCO and MAMA KIN on the same bill?

Bruising up withall the pinching going down this side of the keyboard. New dates being announced today I believe including some Darwin NT action and some hi fidelity at the H IFI Bar in Melbourne. So I hope to see you there.. Please come upand say HI.. As much as I appreciate what cyber reality has to offer.. You still can’t beat a smiling face. Thanks so much for your support thus far you good good things.

Hey there.. Good news.. Mama Kin got some distribution through MGM and so now ifyou are looking for the little Papoose EP you can go to your local little record store and order it on in! Initial stock has gone out to a handful of stores particularly those folks at JB Hifi.

New Live Track Uploaded

As I sit here on a bus in Philadelphia, in what seems like a distant world away from recent tour in Europe, I am starting to consider my movements for the next few months. All that happened in the world of Mama Kin happened really quickly, and with big thanks to the support and encouragement of the JBT… And so now I wonder.. What next? I know I want to play more gigs with Brother Michael, being on stage with him feels like home. I am planning to be in Australia from October onwards for a few months so I am thinking a nice blend of some small festivals, some house concerts (cos they keep me honest and still scare me to shakes) and maybe some support slots, if anyone will have me… Well that sounds cool! I am also mid way through writing a full length album, and I wanted to share one of those new tracks with you. It comes to you with thanks to Rachel Cato, who sat in on Piano Accordian with us on 3 shows while we were in Europe.. It was great to have another element on stage.. She is a gem and bought something very unique, festive and mysterious to the songs… And then to top it off she whipped out her old school mini disc recorder and captured the gig at The Den Atilier in Luxembourg.. Which was undoubtedly the best gig on the run. Great vibe. So the song is Tore My Heart Out, you will hear me ..s and Brother Michael on Cajon. You will have to put up with the rambunctious room, and our complete inability to re mix it, but there is a vibe!.. So it comes imperfect from me to all of you in gratitude for all the support and encouragement you have shown me in the last few months that I have dared to step forward. It has been a massive journey for me.. And I see these last months as the first tentative steps.So big thanks.Stay tuned.Big love.
