Cat Empire Tour + Darwin Launch

It has been a wonderfully crazy and amazing month on planet MK. It’s such a joy and a bit of a relief to finally have the album out there in the world. WAHOO!

Thank you for all the lovely feedback, we are stoked with how the album has been received. It feels good.

Our tour with The Cat Empire kick starts THIS Saturday night at the Amphitheatre as part of the Darwin Festival. All you NT crew come on down to dance under the stars with us! It will be a beautiful way to start the national tour. Darwin holds a special place in our hearts. There is an earthy magic up that way that we are all looking forward to revelling in once again.CLICK HERE FOR TOUR DATES

I’m also really honoured to be playing at the launch of OUR GENERATION, a beautiful film about Indigenous Australians made by Sinem Saban and Damian Curtis. I’m playing alongside Shellie Morris and Shane Howard at the Deckchair Cinema in Darwin and I encourage you all to come and see this amazing film on Monday, August 16 from 6pm.

We’re in Melbourne next week and to celebrate the launch of the album, we’re playing an instore performance on Friday, August 20 at 12.45pm at Basement Discs (24 Block Place in the city). We’ll be playing a few tunes and hanging around for a chat and a signing sesh, so come on down and say hello.

Can’t wait to get back on the road and share our songs with you all.

Big week for MK – new clip, new album!

Hey there…

It’s one helluva big week in Mama Kin Town this week!!

Our debut album BEAT AND HOLLER is officially released online and in stores on Friday. So fricking exciting!  Been waiting soooooo long.. And now.. DELIVERY!

We’re also thrilled to announce that our new video clip for To My Table is complete. We can finally share with you the good times we had making it.

To My Table Now Available

Greetings from fair Europa where we have just finished a run of shows with the awe-inspiring Gurrumul. WOW!

Thank you for having us fair Parisians, what an amazing time we had. Cafe de la Danse was such a gorgeous venue, so intimate and cosy and the audiences welcomed us so warmly. We felt privileged to share our music and stories (in English, peppered with the odd embarrassingly bad French phrases!) with such enthusiastic smiling faces. Merci beaucoup.

We lapped up the beautiful sights – not to mention the beautiful people! – and fell in love with the cafes, parks and cobble-stoned streets once again. Here’s hoping it won’t be too long before we return. Read More

New Video + Tour News

I’m in the midst of pre-departure craziness, so I’ll be brief, but I did want to say farewell before I jet off for Mama Kin overseas adventures next week.

The 2010 whirlwind continues and this past month has been stacked full of great shows, (we have a WOMAD crush!) filming of a new video clip for the next single, To My Table, and plenty of plotting and scheming for the rest of the year as we steam towards the album release in July. (We have heaps of exciting news but we have to be super tight-lipped about it, so watch this space!)

We had a great couple of days filming, blessed with a wonderful team of film gurus who are as lovely as they are talented. I can’t wait to see the finished product and share it with you all.

The new single To My Table hits iTunes on April 14. And the clip will follow very soon.

We’ve also got some studio footage of us recording To My Table at The Compound – too much fun! Check it out

New Tour Dates

Fresh from a killer weekend in the lushness of Adelaide’s Botanic Gardens for WOMADelaide (where we had a cartwheeler in the place of a crowd surfer!), I’m very excited to drop some big Mama Kin news. We’ve had such a great run of summer tour dates. Thank you to all you lovely peeps for coming along and shaking your booties with us. We have been so chuffed by the smiling crowds. And we can’t wait to share the new album with you proper-like…roll on July! So how about that news?!

We are pleased to announce that come April we will be jetsetting our way to Europe for a run of theatre shows from Dublin to Paris and London. WAHOO! For those of you in the northern hemisphere, come on down, we would love to see you.

I cannot believe it’s February. As 2000 and ZEN speeds along outrageously quickly I wanted to stop, take stock and get excited about all the musical goodness on the horizon.

January blitzed by in a haze of amazing festivals, including Woodford (where we had our first ever crowd surfer!) and Peats Ridge (where the rain stopped LITERALLY two minutes before we took the stage), not to mention a few fun guest spots on TV and radio.

Festival Announcements

So today I get to share some upcoming gig announcements with ya’ll.  I am so excited to announce that we will be playing a couple of festivals in the upcoming months…

This is all I am allowed to announce for now.. So if you want to catch Brother Michael and I, we will be doing our thing Westside at the Bridgetown Blues Festival WA we are performing on the Saturday 14th & Sunday 15 November, tickets are now available and selling fast… So go to head to the website for more details and full line up wwwbluesatbridgetown.com

On the East side also in November you can catch Brother Michael, George and my good self shaking our tail feathers at the Mullumbimby Music Festival on Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th November – for full line up and ticket details go to www.mullummusicfestival.com We are really excited to be on the line up for these festies and really hope to see some of your shining faces there. 

On an album front we are still moving through the great creative process.  We are in the final throes of mastering at the moment… The thing is I am not well versed in the technical language of this realm of things, so Tony is having to deal with feedback like “I don’t know Tony, it kind of sounds like it is hitting its head on something, or like it is hungry or something like that.”  Poor darlings having to deal with that! Now the thing is we are trying to choose which song we will lead with for our first single to radio. And all this while trying to temper my beastly fear and self doubt!!  Anyway gotta run.  Washing to hang while little one sleeps before not as little one needs to be picked up from school.. Life goes on for Mama.  More gig announcements coming oh so soonio.  Big love  xx
